Batistuta rested for Ecuador game

Gabriel Batistuta has been left out of the Argentina squad for their CONMEBOL World Cup qualifier against Ecuador.

The Argentina Football Association say that their star player is to be rested due to the match's high altitude and his lack of fitness.

However, Batistuta is confident that he will be playing in the remainder of Argentina's qualifiers.

Argentina currently lead the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying group by six clear points, while Ecuador are sitting in third hoping to reach their first ever Finals.

The decision may eventually be crucial to Brazil, who are struggling in fourth place. If Ecuador can capitalise on a slightly weakened Argentina side, they could widen the gap between themselves and Brazil. On Argentina's last visit, Ecuador beat them 2-0.
