United States shock Portugal
The United States have beaten well a well fancied Portugal side 3-2, to put themselves in a prime position in Group D.
After only 36 minutes, strikes from John O'Brien, Brian McBride and an own-goal from Jorge Costa had given the States a 3 nil lead. Portugal mounted a comeback with Beto scoring before half-time, but even Jeff Agoos' own-goal was not enough.
In the first half, Portugal were terrible, and keeper Vitor Baia was perhaps the worst player. His lack of confidence seemed to spread through his team, and it wasn't until they were 3-0 down that Portugal began to play.
In the second half, wave after wave of Portuguese attacks could not break down the resolute defence of the United States.
