Slick Italy beat Ecuador

An impressive display by Italy produced a deserved 2-0 victory over Ecuador, with Christian Vieri scoring both goals.

Newcomers Ecuador, in their debut World Cup Finals match, played a slick game but were never a match for the powerful Italian's who pushed forward at every opportunity. Italy are now joint favourites with Brazil at 4.50 to win the 2002 World Cup.

Italy are now top of Group G, and look certain to qualify for the second round.

Each Italy attack was fast, confident and incisive, while Ecuador surrendered possession far too easily.
