Tomasson's late strike takes the points
Jon Dahl Tomasson's brace secured three points for Denmark against Uruguay in their opening game in Group A, with a 2-1 win. After France's shock defeat against Senegal, Denmark are now in strong position to qualify from the group.
Tomasson had originally given the Danes the lead, finishing a well worked move. Uruguay had equalised through Dario Rodriguez who scored an incredible volley, before Tomasson's winner.
In a flowing game, Denmark showed good creativity and organisation, while Uruguay oozed flair through Dario Silva and Alvaro Recoba.
Even at this early stage, Rodriguez's goal will be one of the best of the tournament, but it wasn't enough against a solid Danish side.
