FIFA turn down Keane's replacement

FIFA have rejected the Republic of Ireland's request to add midfielder Colin Healy to the squad in place of disgraced Roy Keane.

As Keane was sent home for disciplinary reasons rather than medical or personal, he cannot be replaced. The Irish will have to cope with a reduced squad of 22 for the tournament, although there is encouraging news on the injuries to Mark Kinsella and Jason McAteer.

Brendan Menton, the FAI general secretary said:

'We made a case for exceptional circumstances but we weren't confident we would win it.'

'We have a squad of 22 players and Mick is happy to work with that.'

Kinsella and Jason McAteer both trained yesterday, and manager Mick McCarthy believes that they will both be fit to play against Cameroon on Saturday.
