Zidane will miss two games
France are reeling from the news that their star playmaker Zinedine Zidane will miss their first two group games against Senegal and Uruguay.
A thigh injury picked up in a friendly against South Korea could prove very costly for Zidane, as he will now be relying on his team-mates for the chance to play in the later stages of the tournament.
The France manager Roger Lemerre is understandably worried by the loss, even though the rest of the squad contains so much quality.
However, French Football Federation head Claude Simonet recognises that this is an obstacle that must be overcome:
'If you want to be world champions, you have to be prepared to play from time to time without one of your stars.'
