Canizares will miss World Cup

Spain's first choice goalkeeper Santiago Canizares will not go to the World Cup after suffering a freakish accident at the Spanish training camp.

Canizares has severed a tendon in his right foot by dropping a bottle of aftershave, while in his hotel bathroom. The player needed immediate surgery and will not recover in time to play in the upcoming tournament.

It is likely that Real Madrid's Iker Casillas will take his place in the team, but acknowledges the distress that Canizares will be feeling:

'There's no satisfaction in profiting from the injury of a team-mate.'
