Belgium beat manic Czechs

Belgium reached the 2002 World Cup last night after beating an undisciplined Czech Republic 1-0 away from home. The victory gave Belgium a 2-0 aggregate win over the two-legged play-off.

The Czech's finished the game with only nine men after they had both Pavel Nedved and Milan Baros sent off in the 88th minute for second yellow card offences, just two minutes after Belgium had scored.

The Belgiums had soaked-up huge amounts of Czech pressure, defending wave after wave of attacks.

However, they could not break down the Belgium defence, and Marc Wilmots scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot.
