Colombia leave out big names
The Colombia squad chosen for next week's CONMEBOL qualifier against Peru will be missing some of the teams most established players.
Those absent include the unpredictable Faustino Asprilla, out of form Juan Pablo Angel and veteran Freddy Rincon. They will make way for the relatively new side that lifted the Copa America.
Colombia need fresh talent if they are to qualify for the 2002 World Cup. They are currently sixth in CONMEBOL qualifying, two places off automatic entry and one place from a play-off against Australia. With Brazil and Uruguay both fighting for those same positions, they may need something special to play in Japan/Korea next year. 7th August 2001 |
