Oita Information
Oita lies on the island of Kyushu, the most southerly of the Japan's ten communities. Oita is rapidly becoming a high tech industrial centre, while retaining a traditional feel.

The area is famed for its hot springs, some of which are the biggest in Japan. These giant natural features are now well equipped spa resorts attracting millions of visitors each year.

Close by is Usuki City, where the remains of the area's original fortified town can be seen. Usuki can also provide many beautiful examples of samurai residences and stone Buddhas.

The region is also a hot-bed of footballing talent, producing many successful youth sides. The World Cup 2002 will find itself in excellent hands in this soccer-mad area.
